Our school had been celebrating Sarah’s books for weeks leading up to the visit. Teachers read her books, watched online readings, planned literacy and art activities around her works. Our students were very familiar with Sarah by the time she arrived and she did not disappoint. Sarah was just as lovely as her stories. The sessions that she ran were for juniors - prep, grade one and two. Then a three four and later the seniors were delighted by her engaging and informative conversations. Each session catered beautifully to the level it was designed for.
Sarah was able to share her literary journey and enlighten everyone on how publishing and illustration works with picture story books. This lead to some very thoughtful and interesting questions from the students. Our senior students were very engaged in the session which culminated in a dress up with props to act out one of Sarah’s stories. I’m sure they will always remember the experience.
We have loved Sarah’s stories, now we love her.
Sarah was very interested in our school and the stories around it. Nothing was too much trouble and Sarah took time to visit our library which had some displays of her work, where she very kindly signed all the copies of her books for us.
A wonderful day and wonderful way to kick off our Book Week celebration.
